Thai movies, anyone?

Thais are known for their humor and creativity in film making.  In fact, before I moved here, I already saw funny Thai commercials posted by my friends in facebook but at that time I did not know they were Thai.  I have lots of friends from our home country who love this Thai love story called “Crazy little thing called love”– posts of it all over facebook made us curious, so hubby and I watched it on youtube.

Hubby and I enjoyed the movie– of course it was so much for young people, but we enjoyed it nonetheless.  The guy in this movie became so famous in the Philippines that he is going to have a movie coming up there soon!  I won’t be surprised to find the cinemas there packed with fans.

I hope to watch more Thai movies, not just to improve my language but to have a good feel of Thai culture as well.

For English movies that are not shown on cinemas, we just download videos. We try to have movie nights with the family every Friday so we want to collect as many good films as possible! I wonder what film would be good to watch for next week?

Trip to Lampang, North Thailand

While in Chiangmai, North Thailand  the other year, we took the opportunity to visit our friends based in Lampang.  It took us around 2 hours to get there.

Annie and Jim provide counseling and studies the Bible with HIV positive patients in Lampang

"House of Care" is where they hold their prayer meetings and Bible studies

One of the highlights of our stay in Lampang was our visit to the Elephant Conservatory.

Posing at the entrance

We were able to watch an elephant show there

Perhaps one of the biggest differences of the elephant show in Lampang compared to what we have seen in Chiangmai was it was more on the educational background on how the elephants were so helpful in the development of Thai societies.  Elephants were involved in wars, were the basic mode of transport, and were the carriers of the biggest logs.

I was so impressed at the so many things elephants can do!  :)

Because of time constraints, we were not able to go around the conservatory but we heard that it is where sick elephants are treated and hospitalized.  ”Orphan” elephants are also receive care in this facility.

Getting a tan?

Most Asians cannot understand why some people would want to get a tan.  You see, fair skin is always equated with being beautiful for most people in Asia.  I have to be careful to say “most” because some Asians might not agree with this.

It would not be hard to look for whitening soaps and lotions in beauty shops and department stores because they are all over!  While Westerners so love basking under the heat of the sun hoping to get a tan, most Asians would use an umbrella on a sunny day.

If you go to the beaches in Thailand, you would see thousands of Caucasians lined up along the shoreline in their bikinis and swimwear.

Loving the Thailand sun!

Some people who don’t have the luxury of time to pack their bags and spend for a week-long holiday would rather get tanned through spray tanning. If they can get away with trip hassles, extra expenses for a holiday and get the same gorgeous tan, WHY NOT? :)
