Last month a Thai teacher asked us about the Philippine National costume. Her class is assigned to do a presentation of our country in time for the ASEAN celebration in their school. We got excited about teaching her our National dance, Carinosa. We also let her borrow our son Roi’s Barong Tagalog. We also got busy searching for images of the Philippine costumes– the designs that would fit her first graders.

Barong Tagalog

Maria Clara for women
When I got Roi’s Barong out of the closet, I just admired at how good it looked. Sometimes it takes being out of the country to appreciate our very own. Joey also has his barong hidden in our closet. I don’t know when we will ever have the chance to wear our National costumes here in Thailand. Joey would need silver cufflinks, but I don’t think those are hard to find here. I don’t know where to get a Maria Clara costume in Thailand, though.
