Children’s Day in Thailand

This is our second time to witness Children’s day in Thailand. I remember last year our family were invited to sing at the celebration in our housing subdivision. Back then, we were only four months in Thailand so understandably we had very little Thai.

Today, the foundation where Joey and I will be working with shortly after the language school next month were invited to facilitate some games and introduce some songs. It would be a good opportunity to be introduced to the community and to meet new friends– hubby and I were very excited. So we printed some songs and help prepare some games.
But when the program was supposed to start, the president of the housing subdivision who was organizing the event had to go somewhere to buy some more food, leaving us and our workmates in the foundation. She said we can start. Concerned that it was getting late, we started the program, with me as the emcee! In Thai! Of course it was far from perfect but the smiles of the people made me relaxed. Thai has a saying “sabay-sabay” which means that we don’t need to rush, hurry or worry. So it was just a “sabay-sabay” moment, and some people did not hesitate correcting me at all. I loved it, but I don’t know if I would have the courage to do it over again if given the chance! haha!

I decided to join the team…Preparing the gifts and give-aways….

there was dancing…

singing…

and lots of fun!

Me the emcee: so trying hard to speak Thai! :D and guess who won the grand prize? US!  I mean Happy Community Foundation!

It was such a fun day.  I am looking forward to celebrating more Children’s Day here in Thailand.  Hopefully by next year I would be much improved with my language and yes, my kids will join with the other children in this joyous celebration of life… and the gift we have in children!  Happy Children’s day, Thailand!
